Union New American
Union New American is a high-design restaurant at Tampa’s Westshore City Center, opened in April 2023 by Next Level Brands (Jeff Gigante, Andrew Wright, and Joseph Guggino), the team behind Boulon Brasserie and Forbici. The 9,358-square-foot, two-story building presents a bold contemporary façade of dark aluminum-framed glazing, a warm wood-clad entry portal, and a landscaped terrace that draws guests in from the sidewalk. A rooftop bar and lounge on the second level activates the facade, immediately legible as a destination.
Montreal-based Atelier Zébulon Perron designed the interiors, drawing on the Arts and Crafts movement’s honest materials and visible craftsmanship. At the center is a custom wood-burning hearth fueled by American white oak and coal, set in full view of the dining room. Nearly every dish passes through its flames, making the fire both the engine of the kitchen and the room’s source of warmth and theater. The ceiling, a geometric wooden grid, suspends globe pendants at staggered heights, forming a luminous canopy across the room, while a large suspended steel gantry marks the circular bar below. The bar’s fluted wood panels and curved brass-topped counter are ringed by hanging stemware. Opposite, a custom wood screen wall with circular cutouts adds depth and conceals the stair, and marble community tables offer opportunity for gathering.
At the rooftop, a covered bar sits adjacent to cascading bougainvillea and string lights, with an arched wood-backed spirit display and dark stone counter. The lounge, terrace, and event space carry the evening forward with private events and live music. From business lunch to late-night lounge, each environment feels complete on its own terms while reading as a single, considered whole.
