Shanna and Bryan Glazer JCC

The Shanna and Bryan Glazer JCC serves as a cultural, educational, and community anchor for Tampa, bringing early childhood education, the arts, wellness, and community programming together on a single campus at 522 N. Howard Avenue. The center occupies the historic Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory, a 1940s landmark that once hosted performances by Elvis Presley and an address by President John F. Kennedy. Its adaptive reuse preserves the armory’s civic presence and distinctive façade while transforming it into a welcoming destination for families, students, artists, and seniors. Outdoor play areas, landscaped open spaces, and strong connections between buildings link the campus to the surrounding West Tampa neighborhood.
Inside, the campus balances the character of the original armory with spaces designed for learning, creativity, and connection. The Maureen and Douglas Cohn JCC Preschool is a 21,208-square-foot early childhood facility serving approximately 184 students and 26 staff, with bright classrooms that open onto a dedicated outdoor playground. The Roberta M. Goulding Visual Arts Center, operated in partnership with the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, offers studios for glass fusion, jewelry making, and mixed media, supported by nine kilns that serve children, teens, and adults. Flexible gathering, fitness, and wellness spaces support cultural events, youth enrichment, and senior programs, creating a multigenerational hub where heritage, education, and community life come together.
